CATL’s A-Share Market Value Falls Below 1 Trillion Yuan as Shares Extend Losing Streak
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), one of the world’s leading electric-vehicle battery manufacturers, saw its A-share market capitalization fall below 1 trillion yuan on October 22, drawing renewed attention from investors to the company’s valuation and growth outlook.
According to a report by Jiemian News, CATL’s A-shares closed the morning session at 222.28 yuan, down 2.47%. Based on approximately 4.409 billion A-shares outstanding, the company’s A-share market capitalization stood at around 980.02 billion yuan, below the 1 trillion yuan threshold. The shares had declined for eight consecutive trading sessions.
The latest milestone marks a substantial retreat from the company’s peak earlier this year. CATL’s total market capitalization had previously exceeded 2 trillion yuan, while its A-share valuation has since fallen sharply. As a major player in the global battery industry, CATL’s share-price performance is closely watched by investors assessing the outlook for electric vehicles, battery manufacturing and energy storage.
The company’s latest financial results show continued year-on-year growth, although third-quarter net profit declined from the previous quarter. CATL reported revenue of 442.137 billion yuan for the first nine months of 2026, up 56.19% from a year earlier. Net profit attributable to shareholders reached 64.530 billion yuan, an increase of 31.60%.
For the third quarter, revenue rose 58.58% year on year to 165.221 billion yuan. Net profit attributable to shareholders increased 14.54% to 21.246 billion yuan, compared with 22.546 billion yuan in the second quarter.
The figures indicate that CATL continues to expand its revenue and earnings compared with the same period last year, but the quarter-on-quarter decline in net profit may have prompted investors to reassess the pace and sustainability of future growth. For a company with a substantial market valuation, share prices reflect not only current financial performance but also expectations for future orders, margins, competition and long-term demand.
Competitive pressures and relationships with automakers are also important considerations. As the electric-vehicle market evolves, carmakers are increasingly focused on battery costs, technology choices and supply-chain diversification. Debate over potential shifts in battery sourcing may influence expectations for CATL’s market share and pricing power. However, claims about specific customers reducing purchases or switching suppliers should be evaluated against company disclosures and reliable data rather than market rumors.
At the same time, growth in energy storage, overseas expansion and the commercialization of new battery technologies could provide opportunities for the industry. CATL’s scale, technological capabilities and supply-chain presence remain important competitive advantages. Whether those strengths translate into sustained profit growth will depend on factors including capacity utilization, raw-material costs, product mix, capital expenditure and competition.
A fall below the 1 trillion yuan market-capitalization threshold does not, by itself, establish that CATL’s underlying business has fundamentally deteriorated, nor does it guarantee further share-price declines. Investors will need to distinguish short-term market sentiment from longer-term operating trends and assess the company’s valuation alongside its financial results and industry prospects.
CATL’s latest share-price decline highlights the challenges facing even the strongest companies in the energy-transition sector. Its ability to sustain profitability, maintain relationships with automakers and strengthen its position in both electric-vehicle batteries and energy storage will remain central to investor assessments of its future performance.
