The Chinese pair had already made their mark in the qualification round earlier in the day. Sheng and Wang combined for638.9 points, finishing first and setting new world, Asian and Asian Games records for the qualification round. They carried that momentum into the final and eventually raised the world record for the final to 507.1 points.
The gold medal is another highlight for Sheng Lihao, who has been one of China's leading shooters at the Games. On September 21, he won both the men's 10m Air Rifle team event and the individual title. China also broke the world record in the team event, while Sheng's individual score of 254.2 points set new Asian and Asian Games records.
With the mixed team victory, Sheng became the first Chinese athlete at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games to win three gold medals. Including his two titles at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, he now has five Asian Games gold medals in his career.
Wang Zifei has also enjoyed a strong campaign in Nagoya. She previously helped China win the women's 10m Air Rifle team gold and now has another gold medal after partnering with Sheng in the mixed team event.
The partnership between Sheng and Wang has also produced strong results on the international circuit. At the 2026 ISSF World Cup in Hangzhou, the pair won the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team title, adding to their successful run in the event.
For China, the victory provides another world-record performance on the shooting range and continues a productive start to the shooting competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. With more events still to come, China's shooting team will continue its campaign for additional medals in Nagoya.
