dexinwin Chinese shooting star Sheng Lihao has added another major achievement to his growing career after winning his third gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
On September 22, Sheng partnered with Wang Zifei to win the 10m air rifle mixed team gold medal, becoming the first athlete at the 2026 Asian Games to claim three gold medals. The Chinese shooter had already won the men's 10m air rifle team and individual titles one day earlier.
The victory also took Sheng's Asian Games gold-medal total to five. He previously won two gold medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games, in the men's 10m air rifle individual and mixed team events.
Sheng and Wang entered the mixed team competition in impressive form. In the qualification round on September 22, the Chinese pair scored 638.9 points, setting a new world record for the qualification stage.
The performance came less than 24 hours after Sheng had already enjoyed a remarkable double-gold day.
On September 21, Sheng joined Zhang Changhong and Ma Sihan to win the men's 10m air rifle team event. China scored 1,899.0 points, improving the previous world record by 0.6 points.
Sheng then returned to the range for the individual final.
He faced strong competition from India's Rudrankksh Patil and Himanshu Dhillon. After the first 10 shots, Patil led Sheng by 1.1 points. But Sheng remained composed during the elimination stage and eventually finished first with 254.2 points. The result allowed him to successfully defend his Asian Games title and set new Asian and Asian Games records.
Within a single day, Sheng therefore collected two gold medals and helped produce multiple record-breaking performances.
His relaxed personality away from competition has earned him the popular Chinese nickname “Gan Fan Ge,” roughly translated as the “Foodie Brother.” The nickname reflects his down-to-earth image and his calm demeanor outside the shooting range.
That calmness has also become one of the defining characteristics of Sheng's competitive style.
Sheng first attracted global attention at the Tokyo Olympics, where he won a silver medal in the men's 10m air rifle at just 16 years old. Three years later in Paris, he won two Olympic gold medals, taking both the individual and mixed team titles.
He has now entered the Los Angeles Olympic cycle with another major achievement: three gold medals at a single Asian Games.
His success is particularly notable because the new Olympic cycle has brought changes to shooting equipment and competition conditions. Chinese shooting officials have been working with athletes to adapt to new equipment standards and maintain stability under the revised conditions. Sheng began preparing for those changes early and has continued to adjust his technique through international competitions.
From a teenage Olympic medalist in Tokyo to a double Olympic champion in Paris and now an Asian Games triple champion in Nagoya, Sheng has completed another important step in his development.
Three gold medals, multiple records and another successful title defense have made Sheng one of the standout athletes of the early days of the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
For the “Foodie Brother,” however, the formula remains remarkably simple: raise the rifle, find the target, fire the shot—and then prepare for the next one.
