dexinwin China’s women’s artistic gymnastics team won the team gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on September 23, extending its remarkable winning streak in the event to 14 consecutive Asian Games titles.
Competing at the Nagoya City General Gymnasium, the Chinese team of Du Siyu, Ke Qinqin, Zhang Qingying, Zhang Yihan and Qiu Qiyuan scored 166.462 points to finish first. Host nation Japan took silver with 165.362 points, while North Korea claimed bronze with 158.329 points.
The victory continued a remarkable record that dates back to 1974. Since China first competed in the Asian Games that year, its women’s gymnastics team has never lost the women’s team title, making the latest triumph the 14th consecutive championship in the event.
China did not have the easiest start to the final. Japan produced a strong performance in the opening vault rotation and initially held the advantage. However, the Chinese gymnasts gradually closed the gap through the following events and eventually moved ahead.
The uneven bars became an important turning point for China. The team produced a series of solid routines and began to reduce Japan’s early lead. China then delivered an especially strong performance on the balance beam, further extending its advantage.
By the end of the third rotation, China had built a significant lead over Japan. The team maintained its composure in the final floor exercise rotation and finished the competition with a total of 166.462 points.
Japan finished just 1.100 points behind China, making it one of the closest women’s team finals in recent Asian Games history. North Korea secured the bronze medal with 158.329 points.
For China’s five gymnasts, the gold medal also marked an important achievement on the Asian Games stage. The team successfully handled the pressure of competing against a strong Japanese side on its home soil and recovered from an unfavorable start to secure the championship.
The result also added another gold medal to China’s gymnastics campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. China had already won the men’s team title earlier in the competition, meaning the Chinese gymnastics team completed a sweep of both the men’s and women’s team events.
The 14 consecutive women’s team titles represent more than a single victory. They reflect the continuity of China’s women’s gymnastics program across multiple generations of athletes, with each new group of gymnasts carrying forward the team’s long-standing record at the Asian Games.
At the Aichi-Nagoya Games, China once again demonstrated its ability to perform under pressure, particularly in the decisive stages of a team competition.
