T1 Sweep MKOI to Secure Quarterfinal Berth at the 2026 League of Legends World Championship
Defending champions T1 secured their place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 League of Legends World Championship on October 29, defeating European representatives Movistar KOI (MKOI) 2–0 in the fourth round of the Swiss Stage.
The best-of-three victory improved T1's Swiss Stage record to 3–1, allowing the Korean powerhouse to advance directly to the knockout stage. T1 became the tournament's third quarterfinalist, joining fellow LCK teams Gen.G and Dplus KIA, who had qualified earlier.
T1 delivered two contrasting performances across the series. The opening game developed into a tense contest lasting nearly 40 minutes, while the second saw T1 establish control more quickly and close out the match with greater authority.
Game One: Doran Makes the Difference in a Marathon Battle
MKOI put up a strong fight in the opening game, challenging T1 through early skirmishes and contests over map objectives. Neither side was able to establish a decisive advantage during the middle stages, leaving the outcome dependent on execution in crucial team fights.

The turning point came around the 21-minute mark near Baron Nashor. T1 won a pivotal team fight, with jungler Oner's Lee Sin contributing to the takedowns and top laner Doran's Ambessa securing a double kill. The exchange allowed T1 to claim Baron and gain control of the game.
MKOI continued searching for opportunities to recover, but T1 gradually strengthened its position as the match progressed. At approximately the 40-minute mark, T1 won a decisive fight around the dragon area, eliminated the opposing team and pushed directly into the enemy base to secure the opening victory.
Doran was named Player of the Game for his composed performance and impact in the decisive engagements.
Game Two: Faster Tempo Helps T1 Complete the Sweep
T1 adopted a more proactive approach in the second game. Support player Keria, playing Karma, roamed toward the middle lane early and helped secure first blood, giving T1 an immediate advantage.
The Korean team continued to build pressure through coordinated rotations and objective control. Around the 19-minute mark, T1 won a major team fight and secured a dragon, further strengthening its position.
Oner's Jarvan IV then played a key role in a fight around the middle lane, catching multiple opponents and creating an opening for the rest of the team. Peyz, playing Jhin, capitalized on the engagement, and T1 secured another overwhelming team-fight victory before advancing to destroy MKOI's Nexus.
Keria earned Player of the Game honors for his early influence and effective roaming, helping T1 complete the 2–0 series without needing a third game.
Faker and the Defending Champions Keep Their Title Hopes Alive
The qualification represents an important milestone for T1 as they pursue another world championship. After winning the 2025 World Championship, the team entered this year's tournament with the pressure of defending its title.
The road through the Swiss Stage has not been entirely smooth, but T1 responded when a quarterfinal berth was at stake. The series highlighted the team's experience, adaptability and ability to coordinate its efforts under pressure.
Mid laner Faker remains a central figure in T1's campaign, while Doran, Oner, Peyz and Keria all contributed meaningfully to the victory. Rather than relying on one player's individual performance, T1 demonstrated how coordinated team fighting, vision control and decisive calls can determine the outcome of a high-stakes series.
With T1's qualification, three LCK teams have now reached the quarterfinals. However, advancing from the Swiss Stage is only one step toward the championship. The knockout rounds will bring tougher opposition and leave little room for mistakes.
T1 can now turn its attention to the quarterfinals while awaiting confirmation of its next opponent. The defending champions remain among the contenders for the title, but another championship run will depend on whether they can maintain their form against the world's strongest teams.
