dexinwin Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has provided new comments on the condition and activities of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, during an interview released by Fox News on September 24.
Pezeshkian said that he had met with Mojtaba Khamenei roughly a month earlier and that the two had spoken for about seven hours. According to the Iranian president, Mojtaba Khamenei was “very healthy” and fully capable of carrying out his leadership responsibilities. Pezeshkian also said that Iran’s policy guidelines continued to be issued under the authority of the Supreme Leader.
Mojtaba Khamenei has made few public appearances in recent months, prompting continued international attention over his health and his role in Iran’s decision-making process. Pezeshkian had previously said in an interview on September 11 that Mojtaba was continuing to perform his duties and that Iran’s affairs remained under the supervision of the country’s leadership.
Iranian state media also published on September 22 what it described as a handwritten letter from Mojtaba Khamenei to a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. If authenticated, the document could provide additional public evidence that he has remained engaged in state affairs. However, differing reports and assessments continue to circulate regarding the functioning of Iran’s leadership structure.
Pezeshkian’s comments come as tensions between Iran and the United States remain high. The Iranian president has recently said that Tehran does not want the conflict to continue and has expressed support for diplomatic efforts. Iranian officials have also proposed reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz under certain conditions while seeking to resume negotiations.
The question of whether Mojtaba Khamenei is continuing to exercise direct authority over Iran’s political, military and foreign-policy decisions remains a major subject of international attention. Pezeshkian’s latest remarks indicate that, according to the Iranian president, the Supreme Leader remains actively involved in directing the country.
At the same time, Mojtaba Khamenei’s limited public visibility means that his health and day-to-day activities cannot be independently verified in full from publicly available information.
