Father Loses an Eye in Crash, but Only 11.3 Yuan Is Recovered After Court Judgment

A Chinese family has drawn widespread attention after a court ordered a driver to pay 220,000 yuan in compensation after a serious traffic accident left the victim permanently blind in one eye. However, when the judgment entered the enforcement stage, only 11.3 yuan was ultimately recovered.

The unusual gap between the court-ordered compensation and the amount actually collected has sparked heated discussion online about the difficulties some victims face when enforcing civil judgments.

According to a video posted by a woman using the online name “Ouke,” her father was seriously injured in a traffic accident about a year ago. He spent approximately two weeks in an intensive care unit before surviving the accident, but he permanently lost vision in one eye.

The family subsequently pursued legal action against the driver. According to media reports, the court eventually ordered the driver to pay 220,000 yuan in compensation.

The family initially believed that the judgment would provide financial support for the father's recovery and treatment. However, the situation changed when they applied for compulsory enforcement.

During the enforcement process, authorities investigated the driver's assets. According to the family and media reports, the driver had no real estate or other significant fixed assets. His bank accounts and digital payment accounts, including WeChat Pay and Alipay, were also checked.

The total balance reportedly amounted to only 11.3 yuan.

As a result, despite the 220,000-yuan compensation ordered by the court, only 11.3 yuan was immediately available to be recovered.

The case does not mean that the court valued the victim's eye at 11.3 yuan. Rather, 11.3 yuan was the amount reportedly found in the debtor's available accounts during the enforcement process.

The story quickly spread across Chinese social media, with the phrase “My father's eye is worth 11.3 yuan” becoming a widely discussed topic. Many commenters focused on the difference between winning a lawsuit and actually receiving compensation.

The case also highlights an important distinction in civil litigation: a court judgment establishes a debtor's legal obligation, but actual recovery can depend on whether the debtor has identifiable assets that can legally be seized or transferred.

When a judgment debtor has insufficient assets, enforcement authorities can take measures permitted by law, but recovery may still take time if there are no immediately available assets. A judgment therefore does not necessarily mean that the full amount can be collected immediately.

For the family, the financial loss is only part of the problem. The father's permanent loss of vision has also created long-term physical and emotional consequences.
