RIYADH, October 10, 2026— King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia’s capital was attacked again on Saturday, with footage showing debris scattered across parts of the airport and dust hanging in the air. Airport operations were temporarily suspended as authorities assessed the damage and responded to the incident.
Deadly Attack Causes Casualties and Disrupts Airport Operations
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said the latest attack killed at least 12 people and injured more than 300 others. Some of the injured were reported to be in critical condition and were receiving medical treatment. The victims included Saudi nationals and citizens of Bangladesh, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Sudan.
The attack damaged property at the airport, although the full extent of the destruction remained under assessment. Following the incident, airport operations were temporarily halted, and passengers were advised to check with their airlines before travelling to the airport.
Debris at the Scene Raises Fresh Security Concerns
Images and video footage from the scene showed debris scattered across parts of the airport, with dust visible in the air as emergency personnel responded. The incident has renewed concerns about the security of Saudi Arabia’s aviation infrastructure and the safety of civilian air travel.
The latest attack follows several security incidents involving the airport earlier in the week. Saudi authorities said attacks on Thursday, October 8, killed three Saudi citizens, including an airline pilot. Officials are continuing to assess the damage and review the security situation.
Attack Comes Amid Escalating Conflict in Yemen
The incident occurred as fighting in Yemen intensified. A Saudi-led coalition has been supporting forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognised government, while the Iran-aligned Houthi movement has carried out attacks against targets in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi-led coalition blamed the Houthis for the airport attack and described the strike as a serious violation of international humanitarian law. However, details surrounding the precise circumstances of the latest incident and the weapons involved remain subject to further investigation and official confirmation.

Airlines and Passengers Face Continued Uncertainty
The temporary suspension of airport operations and subsequent flight disruptions have added uncertainty for passengers and airlines. Some carriers have adjusted or suspended services to Saudi destinations amid the deteriorating security situation, underscoring the wider impact of the attacks on regional air travel.
Repeated attacks on a major international airport could have consequences beyond aviation, affecting business travel, international events and confidence in regional transport infrastructure. The situation will depend in part on whether further attacks occur and how Saudi Arabia and its partners respond.
With tensions continuing to rise, the latest incident highlights the growing risks to civilian infrastructure as the conflict in Yemen spills further across the region.
