ChangXin Technology Shares Plunge at the Open, Falling More Than 8% as Investors Reassess Growth Outlook
ChangXin Technology came under heavy selling pressure on China's A-share market on October 19, with its shares falling more than 8% during the morning session and touching 41 yuan, a low since its market debut. The stock later recovered part of its losses, but the company's market capitalization fell below 3 trillion yuan, highlighting growing investor uncertainty over the outlook for the memory-chip industry.
Strong Earnings Forecast Fails to Support the Stock
ChangXin Technology's latest earnings forecast points to a substantial turnaround. The company expects revenue of 265 billion to 270 billion yuan for the first nine months of 2026, while net profit attributable to shareholders is projected at 131 billion to 132.5 billion yuan, reversing a loss recorded in the same period last year.
The company attributed the improvement to rising demand for AI computing, stronger conditions in the global DRAM market, higher memory prices, and improvements in production capacity and manufacturing efficiency.
Despite the strong year-to-date figures, investors appear increasingly focused on the pace of sequential growth. Based on the forecast, third-quarter net profit is expected to reach approximately 53.4 billion to 54.9 billion yuan, compared with 52.8 billion yuan in the second quarter. That implies quarter-on-quarter growth of roughly 1% to 3.9%, significantly slower than the rapid growth recorded in earlier quarters.
The slowdown may have prompted investors to reconsider whether current earnings momentum can justify the market's expectations for future performance.
Weakness in Overseas Memory Stocks Adds Pressure
The broader market environment also weighed on sentiment. On October 17, several US-listed memory and storage-related companies declined sharply. Shares of SK Hynix, SanDisk and Western Digital fell by more than 6%, while Micron dropped more than 5%.

Weakness among international peers can influence expectations for the memory sector, particularly as investors assess whether elevated memory prices and strong AI-related demand will persist.
For companies whose valuations already reflect substantial growth expectations, even a strong earnings forecast may fail to support share prices if investors believe future growth could moderate. Market participants are therefore watching both the sustainability of memory demand and the industry's supply-and-demand balance.
Chairman Proposes Share Buyback
ChangXin Technology also disclosed that Chairman Zhu Yiming had proposed a share buyback using the company's own funds or financing. The proposed repurchase would total between 1 billion and 2 billion yuan.
The shares could be used for employee equity incentives, employee shareholding plans or a reduction in registered capital. The proposal remains subject to the required corporate approval procedures.
The proposed buyback may signal management's confidence in the business, but it does not guarantee an immediate recovery in the stock price. Market performance will continue to depend on earnings expectations, valuation, industry conditions and broader investor sentiment.
What Investors Will Be Watching
Investors are likely to focus on three key factors: whether DRAM prices and demand remain strong, whether ChangXin Technology can accelerate profit growth in subsequent quarters, and whether trading activity indicates that selling pressure is easing.
The latest decline highlights the tension between the company's substantial earnings improvement and concerns about the pace of future growth. A sharp share-price move does not, by itself, determine a company's underlying value. Investors should assess valuation, industry cycles and risk exposure rather than relying solely on headline earnings figures or a proposed buyback.
