China’s Men’s Table Tennis Team Reaches Asian Games Final, to Face Japan

NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 23, 2026— China’s men’s table tennis team defeated Chinese Taipei 3-0 in the semifinal of the men’s team event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday, securing a place in the final.

China will face host Japan in the gold-medal match on Thursday after Japan also swept South Korea 3-0 in the other semifinal.

China fielded Wang Chuqin, Lin Shidong and Wen Ruibo in the semifinal against Chinese Taipei.

Wang Chuqin Survives Five-Game Battle

Wang Chuqin faced Lin Yun-ru in the opening match and had to fight through a dramatic five-game contest.

Wang won the first two games 11-8 and 11-9, but Lin Yun-ru fought back to level the match after taking the next two games 11-9 and 11-8.

The deciding game remained close. Wang trailed 4-7 at one stage before mounting a comeback. He saved two match points and eventually won the game 15-13 to take the match 3-2 and give China the first point.

Lin Shidong then produced a more straightforward performance in the second match, defeating Feng Yi-hsin 3-0 to put China within one victory of the final.

Wen Ruibo completed the sweep in the third match, beating Chinese Taipei’s young player Kuo Kuan-hung 3-1.

China therefore secured a 3-0 victory and advanced to the men’s team final.

Japan Sweeps South Korea

Japan booked its place in the final with an equally convincing 3-0 victory over South Korea.

Tomokazu Harimoto was not the only Japanese player to contribute to the win, with Sora Matsushima and Shunsuke Togami also securing victories as the hosts completed the sweep.

Japan’s strong semifinal performance sets up a high-profile China-Japan final at the Asian Games.

China-Japan Final Set for Thursday

The men’s team final will take place on Sept. 24 in Aichi-Nagoya.

China enters the match with a strong combination of established players and younger talent, while Japan will rely on players including Tomokazu Harimoto, Sora Matsushima and Shunsuke Togami.

Team events place particular emphasis on lineup decisions, momentum and performance under pressure. After overcoming Chinese Taipei in the semifinal, China will now face another major test against the host nation.

The result on Thursday will determine the Asian Games men’s team champion, with both China and Japan competing for the gold medal.
