Elon Musk Recommends Visiting China: ‘You Have to Experience It Yourself’

Tesla CEO Elon Musk once again spoke positively about China during an interview with CCTV Finance on September 23, describing China as an “incredible country” and encouraging people around the world to visit and explore it for themselves.

Musk said that anyone with enough time should consider visiting China, recommending Shanghai, Beijing and Xi’an. He also suggested experiencing China’s high-speed rail system, recalling his own journey from Beijing to Xi’an. According to Musk, the trip was an excellent experience, and the railway stations left a strong impression on him.

Musk also offered some advice to travelers taking China’s high-speed trains: instead of constantly looking at their phones, passengers should look out of the window and take in the scenery along the route.

He said there is simply too much to see in China, from its landscapes and historical sites to its modern cities and infrastructure. In his view, personal experience is important because words alone cannot fully convey the scale and character of the country.

This is not the first time Musk has publicly recommended visiting China. On August 11, he posted on social media that China was “great” and strongly recommended that people visit. His latest comments during the CCTV Finance interview have once again attracted widespread attention.

During the interview, Musk also discussed Tesla’s operations in China and the company’s Shanghai Gigafactory. He said the factory’s achievements were closely connected with its Chinese team, highlighting the quality of its workforce, product quality and manufacturing efficiency.

Tesla began construction of its Shanghai Gigafactory in January 2019. The facility subsequently began production and deliveries within the same year. According to reports, the factory has produced more than 4.5 million vehicles to date and accounts for more than 45 percent of Tesla’s global production, making it an important export center for the company.

Beyond electric vehicles, Musk has also shown interest in China’s development in areas including artificial intelligence and humanoid robotics. His latest remarks reflect his observations of both China as a travel destination and its rapidly developing technology and industrial sectors.

Musk’s recommendation comes as international travel and people-to-people exchanges continue to develop. For overseas visitors, China offers a combination of historical culture, natural scenery, modern urban development, high-speed transportation and emerging technologies.

By encouraging people to visit China and experience it firsthand, Musk has once again drawn attention to the country’s tourism, infrastructure and technological development on the international stage.
