Huawei officially launched its new Mate 90 series on October 1, with sales beginning at 12:08 p.m. the same day. The new flagship lineup includes five models — the Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max, Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design. Prices start at RMB 5,999 and rise to RMB 12,999 for the top-end model.

Mate 90 Series Pricing

Huawei has expanded the Mate 90 lineup across several premium price segments.

The starting prices are:

  • Huawei Mate 90: RMB 5,999

  • Huawei Mate 90 Pro: RMB 6,999

  • Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max: RMB 9,499

  • Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition: RMB 10,999

  • Huawei Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design: RMB 12,999

The standard Mate 90 and Pro models target the mainstream premium smartphone market, while the Pro Max, Collector’s Edition and RS models extend the lineup into the ultra-premium segment.

The Mate 90 is available with storage configurations including 12GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB and 12GB+1TB. The Mate 90 Pro offers 12GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB, 16GB+512GB and 16GB+1TB configurations.

Pro Max Models Push Further Into the Premium Market

The Mate 90 Pro Max starts at RMB 9,499, while the Collector’s Edition starts at RMB 10,999.

Both models are positioned above the standard Mate 90 and Pro versions, with higher-end hardware and imaging capabilities. The Pro Max lineup uses Huawei's Kirin 9050 Pro processor and brings upgrades to the display, camera system and chassis design.

At the top of the lineup is the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design, which starts at RMB 12,999.

The pricing structure gives Huawei a broad flagship portfolio, ranging from a RMB 5,999 entry point to a model priced above RMB 12,000.

Kirin Chips Across the Lineup

The Mate 90 series also represents another step in Huawei's development of its in-house smartphone hardware platform.

The Mate 90 uses the Kirin 9030, while the Mate 90 Pro is powered by the Kirin 9035. The Mate 90 Pro Max and higher-end models use the Kirin 9050 Pro. All models run Huawei's HarmonyOS 7 operating system.

Huawei has also introduced a multi-device communication-sharing feature that allows nearby Mate smartphones to cooperate when a single device has limited network connectivity. The system can support up to four phones working together.

On the imaging side, the Mate 90 series features Huawei's third-generation Red Maple Color Camera technology, along with new portrait effects and imaging features. Huawei has also introduced a modular camera system and professional livestreaming capabilities.

Huawei Expands Its High-End Smartphone Strategy

The Mate 90 series' RMB 5,999-to-RMB 12,999 price range highlights Huawei's increasingly broad strategy in China's premium smartphone market.

Competition in the high-end smartphone segment has intensified, with Xiaomi's 18 Pro series also starting at RMB 5,999. Major manufacturers are competing not only on hardware specifications, but also on processors, operating systems, artificial intelligence, imaging and ecosystem integration.

Huawei's decision to launch and begin selling the Mate 90 series on the first day of the National Day holiday also puts the new flagship directly into one of China's major annual consumer periods.

With the official launch now complete, attention will shift from the headline prices to actual sales, supply levels and consumer demand for the different Mate 90 configurations.
