Disturbing footage from a commercial aircraft has emerged after a violent incident in the cockpit left a pilot injured and covered in blood. Images circulating online appeared to show the captain lying on the floor outside the cockpit while passengers attempted to provide assistance.

The incident occurred on September 30 aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073, traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The aircraft issued an emergency signal during the flight, changed course and eventually made an emergency landing at Tabuk Airport in northwestern Saudi Arabia. Both pilots were injured, while the passengers survived.

Violent Confrontation in the Cockpit

According to information released so far, the incident began with a violent confrontation between the two pilots inside the cockpit.

Several reports citing Israeli sources said the co-pilot allegedly attacked the captain with a knife before attempting to take control of the aircraft.

During the confrontation, the aircraft underwent a dramatic descent, dropping roughly 5,300 meters in about two minutes, according to reports. Passengers panicked as the aircraft suddenly lost altitude, with some rushing toward the cockpit to intervene.

Footage that later circulated online appeared to show the injured captain lying on the floor outside the cockpit with blood visible on his body. Some passengers were also seen with blood on their clothing.

One passenger told reporters that there was blood throughout the scene, while other footage showed passengers and crew members restraining the alleged attacker.

Passengers Enter Cockpit as Aircraft Loses Control

As the aircraft began its abnormal descent, passengers and crew members moved to intervene.

Reuters reported that passengers and crew managed to enter the cockpit and overpower the person accused of attacking the captain. Other pilots on board then helped regain control of the aircraft before it was diverted to Tabuk for an emergency landing.

Tabuk Airport said it received an emergency request from the aircraft at 8:44 a.m. local time and immediately activated its emergency procedures.

The aircraft subsequently landed safely, and both the captain and co-pilot were taken to hospital for treatment.

The passengers were later scheduled to continue their journey to Israel on a replacement aircraft.

Passengers Safe After Mid-Air Crisis

Despite the violent confrontation and the aircraft's sudden descent, the incident did not result in passenger fatalities.

Reuters reported that all passengers survived. The injured captain was hospitalized, with reports indicating that his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Israeli authorities have been investigating the incident, while Saudi authorities are also questioning the person involved.

The exact motive behind the confrontation remains unclear.

Hijacking or Cockpit Violence?

The incident was initially widely described on social media as a “hijacking.”

That description was understandable given the circumstances: the aircraft issued an emergency signal, its flight path changed abruptly, passengers reportedly entered the cockpit to restrain an individual, and an injured pilot was found covered in blood.

However, information emerging from the investigation suggests that the situation may be more accurately described as a violent cockpit confrontation.

Flydubai has described the incident as an “altercation” and urged caution against speculation while authorities investigate. Israeli officials have said there were indications that one pilot may have attempted to take control of the aircraft and cause it to crash.

The precise classification of the incident, including whether it should be treated as an attempted hijacking or a deliberate attempt to crash the aircraft, remains subject to investigation.

A Crisis at Cruising Altitude

The sequence of events — from the emergency signal to the passenger intervention and eventual emergency landing — turned an ordinary commercial flight into a serious aviation security incident.

The cockpit is the most critical operational area of a commercial aircraft. A violent confrontation involving pilots can immediately threaten flight control, communications and passenger safety.

In this case, the intervention of passengers, crew members and other pilots helped prevent the incident from becoming a major aviation disaster.

The widely circulated image of the blood-covered captain lying on the floor has provided a stark glimpse into the severity of the confrontation.

Investigators in Saudi Arabia and Israel, together with the airline, are continuing to examine what happened inside the cockpit, why the confrontation began and what caused the aircraft's sudden descent. Further conclusions are expected as the investigation progresses.
