China’s “Yi-Zhong-Tian” Optical Module Stocks Face Continued Pressure as AI Growth Expectations Are Reassessed
China’s optical module sector has faced sustained volatility in recent weeks, with three prominent companies—Eoptolink Technology, Innolight and TFC Communication—drawing particular attention from investors. Collectively known in the market as “Yi-Zhong-Tian,” the companies have come under pressure following substantial earlier gains, prompting investors to reassess growth expectations, valuations and potential risks across the artificial intelligence infrastructure supply chain.
Trading was mixed on October 21. Innolight fell 0.17%, Eoptolink declined 1.36%, while TFC Communication gained 5.10%. The three stocks therefore did not all fall on that trading day, although their broader performance has reflected significant pressure. According to market reports, as of October 21, Innolight had retreated approximately 52.68% from its previous high, Eoptolink had fallen about 51.55%, and TFC Communication was down nearly 34% from its early-June peak.
1. Institutional portfolio adjustments attract attention
As Chinese mutual funds disclose their third-quarter 2026 reports, changes in institutional holdings have become an important focus for the market.
According to media analysis of the third-quarter report for China Europe Digital Economy Mixed Fund Initiated A, fund manager Feng Ludan reduced holdings in Innolight and Eoptolink. Innolight shares held by the fund declined from 889,300 to 575,000, a reduction of approximately 35.34%. Eoptolink holdings fell from 1.7814 million shares to 1.2862 million, down about 27.8%.
Institutional selling does not necessarily mean that the long-term outlook for these companies has fundamentally deteriorated. However, it suggests that some investors are adjusting their exposure to risk. After a rapid rally, optical module stocks carried elevated growth expectations. When valuations already reflect an optimistic outlook, negative developments involving orders, technology schedules or future earnings can trigger greater volatility.

2. AI demand remains a key driver, but future expectations face scrutiny
High-speed optical modules are essential components of data transmission in data centers and AI computing infrastructure. Continued investment in AI model training, inference and data-center construction has brought 800G and 1.6T optical modules into focus.
Nevertheless, industry demand growth does not guarantee that share prices will continue to rise. Investors must also assess whether cloud-service providers can sustain capital expenditure, whether customer orders will translate into revenue on schedule, whether product pricing and gross margins can hold up, and whether next-generation products can reach development and production milestones as expected.
The development of co-packaged optics, or CPO, has also increased attention on the longer-term evolution of optical interconnect technology. However, progress in new technologies does not necessarily mean that demand for conventional optical modules will disappear immediately. The actual impact will depend on applications, costs, performance and commercialization timelines.
3. Rumors and policy uncertainty amplify short-term volatility
Recent market discussions have focused on potential downward revisions to future earnings forecasts, changes in overseas demand and possible US regulatory restrictions. Unverified summaries of purported institutional discussions have also circulated on social media, adding to investor uncertainty.
Such circulating forecasts should not automatically be treated as official institutional views. Similarly, potential regulatory restrictions should not be regarded as implemented policy before formal rules are confirmed. Assessments of corporate prospects should prioritize company announcements, published financial results and verified order and industry data.
When positioning is crowded and valuations are elevated, rumors can act as catalysts for selling. However, it would be premature to conclude that any single report fully explains the recent decline.
4. What investors will watch next: earnings delivery and valuations
Investors are expected to focus on upcoming financial disclosures and management commentary about industry demand. Innolight, Eoptolink and TFC Communication occupy important positions in the optical communications supply chain, but their business structures, customer bases and profitability differ. Their share prices may therefore follow different paths.
Key indicators include revenue and net-profit growth, gross margins, order fulfillment, overseas customer demand, research and development spending, and capital expenditure. Investors will also need to consider whether current valuations remain consistent with realistic expectations for future growth.
Overall, the recent weakness in “Yi-Zhong-Tian” reflects a shift in how investors evaluate the AI infrastructure trade. Rather than focusing exclusively on growth potential, the market is placing greater emphasis on earnings delivery, valuation discipline and risk management. AI infrastructure investment may continue to create long-term opportunities for optical communications companies, but industry growth and short-term share-price performance are not the same thing. Any sustained recovery will ultimately depend on actual business results and investor demand.
