dexinwin Apple's latest Mac mini officially went on sale in mainland China on September 22, bringing Apple's new M6 and M5 Pro chips to its compact desktop lineup.
The new Mac mini starts at RMB 6,999 for the M6 model, while the education price starts at RMB 6,199. The M5 Pro version starts at RMB 12,999. Pre-orders began on August 27, with the new models now officially available through Apple's online store, retail stores and authorized retailers.
One of the biggest changes is the introduction of Apple's new M6 chip. Built using a 2-nanometer process, the M6 features a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the M6 Mac mini can deliver up to four times the AI performance and twice the graphics processing performance of the previous M4-based model, while CPU performance can improve by as much as 40%.
The M6 also brings a stronger focus on AI acceleration at the GPU level. For the first time in Mac mini, each GPU core includes a neural accelerator, allowing the graphics processor to handle AI-related workloads more efficiently in addition to traditional graphics processing.
Memory and storage performance have also been upgraded. The M6 Mac mini comes with 16GB of unified memory as standard and can be configured with up to 32GB. Memory bandwidth reaches up to 170GB/s, while Apple says storage performance can be up to twice as fast as the previous generation. These improvements are aimed at demanding workloads such as multitasking, software development, large-file processing and local AI applications.
Apple is also offering a higher-performance Mac mini powered by the M5 Pro chip. The M5 Pro configuration can feature up to an 18-core CPU and a 20-core GPU, along with third-generation hardware-accelerated ray tracing. The company positions the model for demanding workloads such as 3D design, visual effects, video production and game development. It starts at RMB 12,999.
The new Mac mini retains Apple's compact desktop design, with most of the changes focused on internal hardware rather than a major external redesign. The company has instead concentrated the upgrade on processing performance, AI acceleration, graphics capabilities and connectivity.
The launch comes as the personal-computing industry places increasing emphasis on on-device AI. Apple is positioning its latest Macs as machines capable of handling more sophisticated AI workloads locally, potentially reducing reliance on cloud-based computing for certain applications.
The RMB 6,999 M6 model is aimed at a broad range of users, including consumers, students, developers and content creators, while the M5 Pro version targets users with more demanding professional workloads. As with previous Mac mini models, however, the computer itself does not include a display, keyboard or mouse, meaning buyers without existing peripherals will need to budget for additional equipment.
The new Mac mini is now available through Apple's online store, Apple retail stores and authorized retailers in mainland China. With the arrival of the M6 chip, Apple is bringing 2nm silicon, stronger on-device AI capabilities and improved performance efficiency to its compact desktop platform.
