The reversal did not last.

On September 21, Shengu Group plunged 34.71% and triggered two intraday trading suspensions. The stock then traded at 30 yuan on September 23 before falling to the 27-yuan limit-down level on September 24.

Six Trading Sessions of Extreme Volatility

The intensity of the price swings has been unusual even among newly listed stocks.

During its first three trading sessions, Shengu Group triggered a total ofsix intraday trading suspensions. Its turnover rates during those three sessions were approximately79.62%, 89.08% and 74.14%, respectively.

The Shanghai Stock Exchange has also repeatedly addressed the unusual trading activity.

The exchange said some investors had engaged in abnormal trading behavior that affected the normal order of stock trading. It subsequently took self-regulatory measures, including suspending trading accounts of certain investors, and said it would continue to closely monitor Shengu Group's trading during its early listing period.

Valuation Became a Key Market Concern

Shengu Group itself issued risk warnings as its share price surged.

According to the company's September 18 risk disclosure, its static price-to-earnings ratio had reached242.96 times, while its price-to-book ratio stood at26.06 times.

For comparison, the corresponding figures for the broader general equipment manufacturing sector published by China Securities Index Co. were41.74 times and 3.50 times, respectively.

The company warned that its valuation indicators were significantly higher than the industry averages and that the stock faced the risk of substantial volatility following its rapid rise.

Strong Business Position, but Earnings Remain a Focus

Shengu Group specializes in major industrial equipment, including large centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors and nuclear pumps, as well as related full-life-cycle services. Its products serve industries including petroleum, chemicals, electricity, natural gas and other industrial sectors.

The company's underlying business has continued to generate substantial revenue, but investors are also watching its earnings growth and future valuation closely.

The sharp divergence between the company's relatively stable industrial operations and its extreme short-term share-price movements has become one of the central issues surrounding the stock.

Market Attention Shifts From Momentum to Fundamentals

The latest limit-down session marks another turning point in Shengu Group's short listing history.

From an IPO price of 4.39 yuan, the stock surged to 82.59 yuan at its September 18 peak before falling to 27 yuan on September 24.

Compared with its September 18 closing price of 57.77 yuan, when its market capitalization was approximately 179.66 billion yuan, the latest market value represents roughly half that level.

The company's trading story has therefore shifted rapidly—from intense speculation surrounding a newly listed stock to renewed attention on valuation, earnings expectations, liquidity and regulatory oversight.

The Shanghai Stock Exchange has reminded investors to participate in trading in compliance with regulations and to make investment decisions carefully.

For Shengu Group, the key question now is whether its share price can gradually move away from the extreme volatility seen during its first few sessions and return to a valuation framework driven more substantially by its business performance and long-term earnings expectations.
