dexinwin China produced another record-breaking performance in shooting at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday, winning the men’s 10-meter air rifle team gold medal while setting a new world record.
The Chinese trio ofSheng Lihao, Zhang Changhong and Ma Sihancombined for a total of1,899.0 pointsin the qualification round at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery.
Their score surpassed the previous world record of1,898.4 points, which had also been held by China.
The victory gave China its 12th gold medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Sheng Lihao Leads China’s Record-Breaking Performance
Olympic champion Sheng Lihao produced the highest individual score among the Chinese trio, recording635.4 points.
Ma Sihan added 633.0, while Zhang Changhong contributed 630.6, giving China the record-breaking combined total.
Sheng’s performance was itself a major milestone. His 635.4 points broke the Asian and Asian Games qualification records that he had previously set at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
The 22-year-old from Suzhou has already established himself as one of China’s leading rifle shooters. He won an Olympic silver medal at the Tokyo Games before claiming Olympic gold at Paris 2024.
China Returns to the Top
The victory marked China's return to the top of the Asian Games podium in the men's 10m air rifle team event.
China had dominated the event at the Asian Games between 2002 and 2014, winning four consecutive titles. However, the team event was removed from the program at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.
At the Hangzhou Asian Games, China finished third, while India won the gold medal.
The return to the top in Nagoya therefore added another chapter to China's history in the event.
India Takes Silver, South Korea Wins Bronze
India finished second with1,890.1 points, while South Korea claimed the bronze medal with1,884.2 points.
South Korea's Park Ha-jun led his team with 631.4 points, followed by Shin Min-ki with 629.2 and Kwon Hyeop-jun with 623.6.
Park and Shin advanced to the individual final, while China's Sheng Lihao and Ma Sihan also qualified. Zhang, despite finishing fifth overall in the qualification rankings, missed the individual final because international competition rules limit each country to two athletes in the final.
Another World Record for China
The men's result came just one day after China also set a world record in the women's 10-meter air rifle team event.
Wang Zifei, Han Jiayu and Du Yuchen won the women's team gold with1,904.2 points, establishing another world record at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
The back-to-back record-breaking performances highlighted China's depth in Olympic-style rifle shooting.
For Sheng Lihao, the men's team victory also provided another major achievement at a Games where he arrived as one of China's most closely watched shooting stars.
More Than a Gold Medal
The 1,899.0-point total was not simply enough to win the Asian Games title. It also demonstrated the level of consistency required across 180 shots from three athletes.
Every fraction of a point mattered.
Sheng's 635.4 led the field, while Ma and Zhang added scores high enough to push China's combined total beyond its own previous world record.
The result also gave China a significant psychological boost after finishing with bronze at the previous Asian Games.
Now, with a new world record and another Asian Games gold medal secured, China's men's 10-meter air rifle team has returned to the top of the continental competition.
And for Sheng Lihao, the day offered a particularly impressive double achievement: a world-record team gold followed by another chance to compete for individual honors.
The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games have already produced several record-breaking performances in shooting, and China's rifle shooters have once again demonstrated why the discipline remains one of the country's major medal events.
