The women’s doubles table tennis final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games is set to feature a highly anticipated China-Japan matchup, with China’s Wang Manyu and Kuai Man facing Japan’s Miwa Harimoto and Hina Hayata on September 28.

Both pairs advanced to the final with commanding 4-0 victories in their respective semifinals. Wang Manyu and Kuai Man defeated Thailand’s Suthasini Sawettabut and Orawan Paranang, while Harimoto and Hayata beat Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem and Ng Wing Lam. The women’s doubles final is scheduled for 6 p.m. Beijing time.

Wang and Kuai Advance in Straight Games

Wang Manyu and Kuai Man produced a strong performance in their semifinal, overcoming the Thai pairing 4-0 to secure their place in the gold-medal match.

The Thai duo had already caused an upset earlier in the tournament by defeating South Korea’s Shin Yu-bin and Zhu Qianxi. However, Wang and Kuai maintained control throughout their semifinal and avoided another surprise result.

Both Chinese players have already enjoyed successful campaigns in Nagoya. Wang has won gold in the women’s team and women’s singles events, while Kuai has claimed titles in the women’s team and mixed doubles competitions. A victory in women’s doubles would give each player a third gold medal at the Games.

Japan Pair Also Reach the Final

Harimoto and Hayata secured their final berth with a 4-0 victory over Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem and Ng Wing Lam.

The Japanese pair had also defeated China’s other women’s doubles pairing of Chen Yi and Fan Shuhan earlier in the tournament, ending the Chinese duo’s run in the quarterfinals. Their progress has set up a direct showdown with Wang and Kuai for the Asian Games title.

Another China-Japan Gold-Medal Battle

The women’s doubles final adds another China-Japan contest to the table tennis program at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Earlier in the Games, China defeated Japan 3-0 in the women’s team final. Japan, meanwhile, defeated China in the men’s team final, while China’s Lin Shidong and Huang Youzheng defeated Japan’s Shunsuke Togami and Tomokazu Harimoto in the men’s doubles final.

The women’s doubles final therefore represents another important meeting between two of Asia’s leading table tennis teams.
