dexinwin Chinese martial arts film icon Jackie Chan made a surprise appearance at an NBA China Games event in Macao on Friday, taking part in a basketball shooting challenge and successfully sinking a jump shot.
Chan's appearance quickly became one of the highlights surrounding the 2026 NBA China Games. During the interactive event, the veteran actor took the basketball, stepped up for a shot and sent it cleanly through the hoop, prompting cheers from fans at the venue. Videos of the moment quickly circulated on social media.
The appearance also brought an unusual crossover between the worlds of martial arts cinema and professional basketball. Known internationally for his action films and stunt performances, Chan showed a different side of his athletic ability by taking part in a simple but entertaining basketball challenge.
Chan also met members of the Dallas Mavericks during their China trip. The Mavericks' official social media account shared a group photograph featuring Chan and the team, describing the meeting as a memorable moment for the players and the organization.
Chan's appearance comes as the NBA China Games return to Macao for a second consecutive year. The 2026 event features the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks, who are scheduled to meet in two preseason games at The Venetian Arena on October 9 and October 11.
According to the NBA, the 2026 edition marks the 16th NBA China Games since the event was launched in 2004. The series has featured 30 NBA preseason games over the years as part of the league's efforts to expand basketball's global reach.
The China Games are designed to offer more than just basketball. Alongside the two preseason games, organizers have arranged NBA House, NBA Fan Day, youth basketball clinics and community programs covering areas such as health, wellness and sustainability.
The broader program has turned the event into a combination of sports, entertainment and cultural activities. Chan's participation added another layer to that crossover, bringing one of China's best-known international film stars into an NBA environment.
The video of Chan making the shot attracted considerable attention online, with fans praising the unexpected accuracy of his jump shot. The moment also generated playful discussion about the athletic ability of the longtime action star.
For the NBA, celebrity participation is also part of the wider entertainment experience surrounding international games. The presence of Chan helps connect the event with audiences beyond traditional basketball fans while highlighting the cultural dimension of the league's return to China.
The 2026 NBA China Games are therefore serving as more than a pair of preseason contests. With NBA players, local fans, entertainment figures and community programs coming together in Macao, the event has become a broader celebration of basketball culture.
Jackie Chan's successful jump shot may have lasted only a few seconds, but it provided one of the most memorable off-court moments of this year's China Games and added a distinctly Chinese touch to the NBA's latest visit to Macao.
