dexinwin Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, held a tea meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House on the morning of September 25, local time.
The meeting took place during President Xi's state visit to the United States. Following the tea meeting, the two couples traveled together to the U.S. National Archives, where they toured the building and viewed exhibits and historical records.
During the meeting, Xi said that his visit marked his return to Washington after 11 years. Trump described Xi's state visit as constructive and very successful. According to China's Foreign Ministry, Trump said the two leaders had engaged in in-depth communication on China-U.S. relations as well as major international and regional issues, achieving positive results that benefited both countries. Trump also expressed his expectation of maintaining close communication with Xi and working together on the future development of U.S.-China relations.
After the tea meeting, Xi and Peng, accompanied by Trump and Melania, visited the National Archives. The two couples entered the building's central hall together and listened to an introduction to the archives and its major collections.
During the visit, Xi spoke about the importance of historical records and the lessons they can offer for the future. He noted that China and the United States have different histories, cultures, social systems and development paths, while their peoples share common aspirations for a better life.

The tea meeting followed a state dinner hosted by Trump and Melania at the White House on September 24. The White House said the tea meeting in the Red Room on Friday morning continued longstanding traditions of hospitality accompanying visits by foreign leaders and their spouses.
